Sub-Ohm & Plus-Ohm

Sub-Ohm & Plus-Ohm

Sub-Ohm and Plus-Ohm, sounds nice but what does it actually mean? Tip of the veil: it has to do with the resistance of your coil.

Generally speaking, e- cigarettes are divided into 2 types, Sub-Ohm and Plus-Ohm.

Plus-Ohm means that the resistance of the coil is above 1 Ohm.

Plus-Ohm coils are often found in starter kits and the somewhat simpler devices because they require less power to produce vapour. The amount of flavour and vapour with a Plus-Ohm coil is therefore less than with a Sub-Ohm coil, but a Plus-Ohm coil is often more economical with the e-liquid.

For Plus-Ohm coils, it is best to use an e-liquid where the VG content is not higher than 50%, as they are usually small and the e-liquid can become too thick for this type of coil which make them burn quicly.

For Plus-Ohm coils the "mouth to lung" method of inhalation is most used because these clearomizers (tanks) often have a somewhat smaller airflow, this of course remains a personal preference.

Sub-Ohm means that the resistance of the coil is below 1 Ohm.

Sub-Ohm coils can often be found in the more advanced sets and mods.

A coil with a resistance below 1Ohm needs more power (wattage) in order to produce the vapour. This will usually result in more vapour than a Plus-ohm coil. More vapour generally means a tastier flavour, but more liquid is evaporated per puff, which means that with a Sub-Ohm device the e-liquid will have to be refilled a little more often.

For Sub-Ohm coils we recommend a VG content of at least 50% for the best experience, depending on the type of sub-ohm coil you use. Most Sub-Ohm coils can also use a higher VG-level.

Because more vapour is produced, Sub-Ohm clearomizers often have a larger airflow and the "direct lung" method of inhalation is most commonly used.

For more information about mouth- to-lung vs direct-lung vaping see our article on the topic.
